III. THE EXCRETION OF UREA

Data upon plasma and urinary urea at varying rates of urine flow are presented for the sculpin and flounder. In addition, a few figures are reported for the daddy sculpin, sea raven, and wrymouth. From a comparison of the present data with those of Clarke (1934), glomerular filtration alone seems adequate to account for all of the urea excreted by the sculpin. Furthermore, urea may apparently be reabsorbed by the renal tubules in considerable amounts, particularly in the lower, more normal range of urine flow. In the aglomerular goosefish, in the plasma and urine of which urea is normally present in only minimal amounts, injected urea appears in the urine in significantly higher concentration than is present in the plasma.
